Midas Store May Make Way for Miami Apartment High-Rise
A Midas store in the Edgewater neighborhood that’s only been up and going for four years, may face the wrecking ball. Michael Lichtenstein paid $7.3 million for the building and a small vacant parcel at 2140 N.E. 2nd Ave. so he could build Edgewood 22, a 20-story apartment building.
The project will feature 160 units and 10,000 square feet of commercial space. There would be a pool and amenity deck on the fifth floor, plus another deck with a smaller pool on the roof. The apartments would range from 504-square-foot studios to 2,023 square feet with four bedrooms.
The city’s Urban Design Review Board is expected to vote on the project, soon. Miami-based Zyscovich Architects designed the project. The South Florida Business Journal reports there has been a boom in residential construction in Edgewater in recent years as more people seek to live just north of downtown Miami and near the bridge to Miami Beach.
