Hutto 1,400 Acre Megasite Lands Two Whoppers
Towns north of Austin almost can’t help but grow. Samsung is building a $17 billion chip plant near Taylor. It’s expected to open next year. Experts expect between 150 and 200 suppliers to populate the area in the near future.
No town is preparing for the onslaught like Hutto. The town has assembled 1,400 acres for economic development opportunities and it now looks like some companies are taking the bait. The Austin Business Journal reports, two large projects are in the works. A massive data center campus called PowerCampus Austin from Skybox Datacenter and Prologis and an industrial park called Hutto Mega TechCenter have passed muster with Hutto city officials.
The PowerCampus data center could eventually total 3.9 million square feet across six buildings on 159 acres. Public documents note that the minimum capital investment on the project is $10 billion.
Then there’s the 188-acre Hutto Mega TechCenter being built by Titan Development. Initial plans call for upward of 2 million square feet of speculative high-tech industrial space, with buildings ranging from 200,000 square feet to more than 1 million square feet.
