Brookfield Going Green With Ten Houston Office Properties

Brookfield Properties has ten Downtown Houston office buildings and is planning to procure enough energy from green sources that it can fulfill its zero emission policy by 2026. Brookfield has initiated a strategy to procure electricity generated from sources such as hydropower, solar, wind and nuclear across its 70 million-square-foot portfolio, including 10.3 million square feet in Houston.

The company’s 10 downtown Houston office towers would tap into solar. A commitment from Brookfield, which uses about 90,000 MWh of electricity annually for its Houston properties, would include Allen Center, Houston Center and Heritage Plaza. The company plans to finance the construction of the a new Texas solar plant that would generate more than enough electricity to power the buildings.

“Instead of taking incremental steps or waiting for others to act, we are completely transforming how we power office buildings throughout the United States,” said Brookfield’s Ben Brown.
