Staying at Soldier Field Still On the Table as Bears Meet with Mayor Johnson
Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson met with the Chicago Bears in hopes of keeping them at home. While Johnson was tightlipped about their discussion, he signaled his goal for the Monsters of the Midway to remain local.
“We want to make sure we keep shuffling here in the city of Chicago with the Bears,” he said. “I want to make sure the ownership of the Chicago Bears, the Park District and the residents of the city of Chicago have a real seat at the table to discuss a pathway forward.”
The meeting comes on the heels of the Bears talking to Naperville’s Mayor Scott Wherli as part of their quest to build a newer, larger playing facility and mixed-used development area. Last fall, the team had reached an agreement to acquire 326 acres of property in the now-closed Arlington Raceway in Arlington Heights. However, this scenario is now in jeopardy due to tax issues, causing the Bears to reevaluate their options.
