City Seeks Redevelopment for Long-Vacant Pilsen Site

A six-acre site in Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood could finally get redeveloped after 10 years sitting vacant if the Chicago Plan Commission (CPC) approves a proposal by the city’s Department of Planning and Development (DPD) and Department of Housing, the Chicago Business Journal reported.

“Its adoption by the plan commission next week would formalize the community’s expectations for future developers and facilitate the review and approval of proposed projects on the site,” Peter Strazzabosco, deputy commissioner for the DPD, told the Business Journal

Upon approval, the DPD plans to seek a developer for a mixed-use project that will consist of 432 residential units, 337 parking spaces, 11,000 square feet of commercial space, and 150,000 square feet of public space on city-owned land.

City officials will present the proposal at a May 18 CPC meeting, according to the Business Journal.
