Bastrop Movie Studio Plans Moving Forward
The owners of the Bastrop 552 Project, touted as a 546-acre film studio, are hoping to start work by the end of the year. An Austin Business Journal report says the project, which could eventually have 486,000 square feet of studio space, 300,000 square feet of warehouse/mill space and 200,000 square feet of office space, is acquiring local permits that might allow it to break ground on the first phase by Q4 2023.
Consisting of six 20,000-square-foot studios, two 10,000-square-foot sound stages, a 50,000-square-foot warehouse with mill space and a 52,000-square-foot office space, the studio could open by the end of 2024. The applicants run Line 204 Studios in Los Angeles, which provides stages and equipment rentals to the likes of Netflix, Hulu and the NFL.
An analysis prepared on behalf of the applicant said the studio could generate $177.8 million per year, support 1,443 permanent jobs and $64.3 million in household earnings paid to workers over the decade after construction is completed.
