Onetime rocking Cabana Hotel in Dallas on the block

Dallas’s Cabana Hotel Hits the Market

It was the hotel of the stars. Led Zeppelin and the Beatles stayed at the Cabana Hotel in the 60’s. The historic hotel was built by Jay Sarno, who built Caesar’s Palace, in 1963 for $6 million. It pretty much went downhill from there, being converted into a jail facility by 1984.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Centurion American Development Group tried to get it refurbished starting in 2017, but ran into some permitting challenges, historic preservation issues and Covid. After demolishing the interiors, and spending an estimated $100 million, they stopped work in 2019.

Centurion now plans to sell the property it had for six years. The ten story building, in its prime was a 268-room hotel. Davidson & Bogel Real Estate is marketing the building and is planning to convert it. Located at 899 North Stemmons Freeway, the Cabana Hotel totals more than 3 acres along the southeastern edge of the Design District.
