Ikea Inks Two Greater Washington Leases to Open New Concept Stores

Ikea plans to open two new urban-format concept stores in the United States, located in Fairfax and Gaithersburg in Greater Washington, according to a report by Washington Business Journal. The stores, spanning 4,458 square feet and 8,882 square feet, respectively, are expected to open later this year.

Customers can meet with Ikea employees at both locations for home furnishing design and planning. However, items purchased from the Pentagon City location must be shipped, whereas items bought at the stores in Fairfax and Gaithersburg can be picked up.

The Swedish furniture giant currently has two plan-and-order locations in England and two comparable planning studios in California. Its two big-box stores in the Greater Washington area are in Woodbridge and College Park.

Fairfax Corner is a mixed-use development owned by Peterson Cos. The retail center is home to various merchants, including REI and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
