Energy Tech Company Finds Abilene a Good Fit
Lancium, an energy technology company, expects to invest around $2.4 billion in Abilene over five years as it attempts to balance the state’s energy grid and encourage development of renewable power. Located on more than 1,000 acres in the area near Spinks Road, west of the city, the campus will be home to a variety of industries powered by renewable energy, including Bitcoin mining and traditional data centers.
Lancium says its proprietary applications can lower users power costs by approximately 50 percent or more while optimizing mining operations. The towns abundant sunlight and wind, allow the company to utilize its grid stabilization programs to their fullest extent, an important component when trying to mix renewables into the grid. The Abilene campus will operate as a controllable load resource.
The Lancium site will be built in phases over the next several years, with the company working to develop the full site as additional partners come on board.
