Chicago-based BDT & Company and New York MSD Partners will merge their advisory and investment operations

Investment Advisory Firms BDT, MSD to Merge

Chicago-based BDT & Company Holdings and Michael Dell’s MSD Partners, L.P.  have entered into a business combination agreement to create an advisory and investment firm serving the distinct needs of family- and founder-led business owners and strategic, long-term investors. It will offer a differentiated investment platform across private capital, credit, real estate and growth equity.

“Over the past 13 years, we have built BDT as a differentiated merchant bank to align to the needs of our business-owning clients and investors, providing trusted advice, long-term, risk-adjusted capital, and an unparalleled global network,” said BDT founder Bryon Trott. “Our objective has never been to be the biggest firm, but rather to be the best at what we do – that same principle holds true today.”

Trott and MSD CEO Greg Lemkau will serve as co-CEOs of the combined company, with Trott also serving as board chairman. Dell will chair the advisory board.
