Alta Terra looking to build student housing, retail in Richardson

Richardson to Vote on Student Housing, Retail Project

A Utah developer is seeking zoning in Richardson to build a mixed-use project near the University of Texas at Dallas. Alta Terra Real Estate came at the city council two years ago and was turned down, the council saying there was no demand for the project due to the Covid pandemic. But now, with the pandemic subsiding and the growing enrollment at neighboring UT Dallas, the timing will likely be better.

The 13-acre development is planned on the south side of Bush Turnpike on Waterview Parkway.

Alta Terra Real Estate wants to build a combination of student housing, apartments and a small hotel on the property located just north of the UTD campus. Up to 19,000 square feet of retail space would also be included in the plans. The developers are seeking planning approval for a five-story 529-bed student housing community, 340 apartments with retail, two freestanding retail buildings and a four-story 110-room limited service hotel.
