Partnership for NYC Survey: Gradual Recovery Seen in Manhattan Return-to-Office Rates
As of mid-September 2022, 49% of Manhattan office workers are currently at the workplace on an average weekday, up from 38% in April, the Partnership for New York City reported Thursday. The Partnership’s latest survey of major Manhattan office employers also found that just 9% of employees are in the office five days a week.
The share of fully remote office employees dropped from 28% in April to 16% currently. Return- to-office rates are projected to increase gradually through the rest of 2022, with 54% of workers expected in the office on an average weekday by January 2023.
Employers remain committed to staying in New York City: 54% expect their office employee headcount will increase or stay flat over the next five years; only 10% expect a decline. Moreover, most don’t plan to reduce their real estate footprint in the city despite the increase in days of remote work.
