Lucien Lagrange and His Team Join Lamar Johnson Collaborative
Lucien Lagrange, the architect who designed the 70-story Park Tower and other iconic Chicago residential high-rises, has joined Clayco subsidiary Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC) as principal and senior design consultant, the Chicago Tribune reported. Lagrange, who founded Studio Lucien Lagrange in 1985, has brought his entire 10-member design team over to LJC.
The move to Clayco was a significant shift for Lagrange, reported the Tribune. But the 82-year-old architect said he still has plans for large-scale residential projects and hotels, and Clayco, which handles all aspects of the development from design and engineering to construction, will help bring these ideas into reality.
“It will give me more opportunities to do what I really want,” he said.
Lagrange’s designs go against the modernist grain, the Tribune reported. “We want to bring back the elegance of Lake Shore Drive, especially as it was in the 1920s and 1930s,” he said.
