Battery Maker to Build $1.25 Billion Factory in Buckeye
KORE Power will break ground this fall on KOREPlex, a two million square-foot manufacturing plant. The company paid $29 million for the 214-acre site, about 40 miles west of Phoenix.
The factory will be able to produce 12 gigawatts per hour (GWH) of lithium-ion battery cells each year. The output from the batteries would be enough to power 3.2 million homes each year. The company also announced that it will be a a net-zero gigafactory, through its on-site use of solar and battery energy storage.
KORE’s CEO Lindsay Gorrill says everything now is in place and the company is…”on track to provide U.S.-made lithium-ion cells to EV and storage solution providers.” KORE has a supply agreement with nearby Zero Electric Vehicles, Inc. (ZEV) that ensures the availability of KORE’s certified e-mobility battery modules through 2030 to be used in ZEV’s electric powertrain kits.
The KORE factory will be operational in 2024. Yates Construction is the lead contractor.
