LG Building $1.4 Billion Battery Plant Outside Phoenix
Queen Creek Arizona will be the site of the South Korean company’s next battery plant. The town gave the project its final approval at its last Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The battery plant is expected to create 2,800 jobs. The plant will be the towns largest employer.
The company bought 600 acres in April and plans to construct 11 buildings, totaling about 1.5 million square feet on the 120-acre site. Construction will begin this summer on the first plant in North America to produce cylindrical lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Mass production is slated in the second half of 2024. LG has an agreement with electric vehicle maker, Lucid, who has a plant approximately 30 miles away.
