CHOC Breaks Ground on Affordable Housing Project in Coachella
Community Housing Opportunities Corp (CHOC), a nonprofit housing developer, has broken ground on Placita Dolores Huerta, a 110-unit affordable housing community in Coachella, CA. The site is dedicated to social justice icon and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Dolores Huerta, who attended the groundbreaking.
The project received funding from multiple sources, including $23 million from the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee, $1 million in Riverside County HOME funds, $3.8 million from a City of Coachella CFD loan as well as financing from USDA Rural Development.
Located at 84900 Bagdad Ave., the community will be in proximity to Bagdouma Park, Coachella Veterans Memorial Park as well several shopping, dining and entertainment options. At full buildout, Placita Dolores Huerta will have one-, two- and three-bedroom units that are financed to remain affordable for 55 years, and construction should be completed by late 2023.
