South Park Property Purchased by Seattle’s Cultural Space Agency
A 32,000-square-foot parcel in the South Park neighborhood has been purchased by the Cultural Space Agency, a real estate company chartered by the city of Seattle in 2021. The firm teamed-up with Cultivate South Park to buy four buildings in the community.
The acquisition is funded using $2.3 million from the city’s Strategic Investment Fund as well as $3.5 million in private donations. The project, called El Barrio, will allow permanent community ownership of the parcel. Included in the purchase is 100-year-old South Park Hall, along with the South Park Idea Lab, a coffee shop and a parking area to be used as entertainment space.
In a news release, the Cultural Space Agency quoted the co-founder of partner Cultivate South Park Cote Soerens, “The neighborhood should own the neighborhood!”, and to that end, a full-participation ribbon-cutting is scheduled for June 18th at the corner of 14th Avenue and South Cloverdale Street.
