Largest Fulton Market Project Yet is on the Drawing Boards
Fulton Street Cos. is getting ready to unveil plans for a $600-million mixed-use project in the Fulton Market District, the biggest real estate development yet in the fast-growing neighborhood, Crain’s Chicago Business reported.
The locally based developer wants to build office and lab space, apartments, a hotel and a big fitness center on a site at 1200 W. Fulton St., Alex Najem, the firm’s founder and CEO, told Crain’s. Already, his company is preparing to break ground on a 34-story apartment tower across the street and is close to lining up an anchor tenant for a 530,000-square-foot office building about five blocks east.
Although the project will require both a zoning change and lender support, Najem has well-established, deep-pocketed partners: Harrison Street CEO Christopher Merrill; and Shanna Khan, the daughter of Shahid Kahn, the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Flex-N-Gate. Waterton is also investing in the development.
