Plans for SoCal Erewhon Markets Include Mix of New, Adaptive Reuse

Design firm RDC recently unveiled its plans for new Erewhon Markets in Southern California. The new locations include both adaptive reuse of existing buildings and new construction.

The newest venue is Erewhon Pasadena, emerging from an adaptation of the historic I. Magnin store on Lake Avenue. Erewhon Studio City is now open in the former Sportsman’s Lodge location. Erewhon Beverly Hills will refashion an existing building on Beverly Drive. Meanwhile, Erewhon Culver City will soon arrive in the new Culver Steps development. RDC also recently designed Erewhon’s popular Santa Monica and Silver Lake markets.

The new locations extend the influence and reach of the organic grocer/café in the Los Angeles region.

“In each of these new locations, we work closely with Erewhon to fashion the markets’ complex space configurations,” said Terry Todd, RDC associate principal. “Established urban areas such as Pasadena’s Lake Avenue corridor are highly desirable but difficult to plan for most retailers. Erewhon’s strategy applies differently each time. But in every case, RDC’s solutions are bright, multi-functional and very successful.”
