JLL Helps Toyota Land on NC’s Greensboro-Randolph Megasite for Battery Plant

The 1,825-acre Greensboro-Randolph Megasite in Liberty, NC, has been chosen for Toyota’s new $1.29 billion automotive manufacturing plant. Toyota Battery Manufacturing, North Carolina (TBMNC) will be the first plant to produce automotive batteries for Toyota in North America is expected to create 1,750 new American jobs.

JLL led the site selection efforts and worked closely with Toyota throughout the process, evaluating multiple factors including quality of life, workforce analytics, logistics, and incentives.

“We are honored to continue our partnership with Toyota as their trusted advisor as they prepare to embark on the development of this new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant,” said Meredith O’Connor, International Director, JLL. “We believe the strength of the workforce and quality of life in the region make the Greensboro-Randolph Megasite the optimum location for Toyota and their employees.”

This is JLL’s third national site selection project for Toyota. JLL led the site selection efforts for the Toyota Motor North America Headquarters in Plano, TX, in 2014, and more recently let the site selection efforts for the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA plant in Huntsville, AL, in 2017.

Candidates for the manufacturing site were narrowed down based on stated requirements. According to Toyota, Greensboro-Randolph Megasite exceeded these needs with:

  • An extensive and well-maintained highway system
  • Four international airports and two seaports
  • Onsite rail
  • Renewable energy availability
  • World-renowned education system
  • Strong local and state government partnerships
