EBI on Measuring Sustainability: “It’s All About That Improvement” (VIDEO)
The topic of sustainability and how to achieve it is coming to the forefront in commercial real estate. Quantifying and measuring sustainable efforts and progress is the key, and a pair of experts from EBI Consulting have laid down guidelines in the video below, moderated by Connect CRE founder and CEO Daniel Ceniceros.
“There’s a lot of claims, especially around ESG and sustainability,” says Mike Eardley, director of energy and sustainability at EBI. “It’s very important to justify these claims and what people mean by them.”
Will Duggan, ESG program manager, says that in the built environment, the health and well-being of tenants and the sustainability of buildings are the two core focuses. Meeting these two goals isn’t going to happen overnight, and Eardley says building owners and operators shouldn’t expect to get straight A’s on their efforts the first time out.
“It’s all about that improvement,” Eardley says. “Don’t worry about the initial report card. What steps are you taking to get there?”
