DFW Leads All U.S. Metros for Multifamily Investment YTD

DFW leads all U.S. metros for multifamily investment year-to-date 2021, with $16 billion in total sales comprising 9.4 percent of the U.S. total. This was a 136.2 percent increase from the prior year, according to CBRE’s third quarter 2021 U.S. multifamily report.

Dallas also ranked fourth for total multifamily absorption with 24,300 units absorbed in the past year and 12,000 units in third quarter alone. The multifamily market set a new quarterly absorption record of 251,500 units in third quarter.

“The significant increase in volume in DFW is a result of exceptional property-level fundamentals and a business-friendly environment that continues to promote job growth in the region,” says Danny Baker, executive vice president and leader of CBRE’s multifamily investment sales group. “The long-term growth trajectory indicates DFW is and will remain one of the best apartment markets in the country with elevated levels of liquidity across the risk spectrum as investors rebalance portfolios to meaningfully increase apartment and industrial exposure in the Sunbelt.”
