CushWake Markets Upper East Side Retail Mainstay
Cushman & Wakefield has been hired to arrange he sale of 1571-1573 Third Ave., two contiguous mixed-use buildings and home to Wankel’s Hardware Store. The firm’s Brett Weisblum and Will Conrad will lead marketing efforts on behalf of the seller. An asking price wasn’t disclosed.
“This asset, specifically Wankel’s Hardware Store, has been an Upper East Side staple and fixture since 1896,” said Weisblum. “Wankel’s has been in operation and in the same family for more than 125 years. This is the first time the asset is being offered for sale and makes way for new possibilities for the current and future owner.”
Situated on the east side of Third Avenue between East 88th and 89th streets, 1571-1573 Third spans 17,560 square feet. The buildings are currently configured as 20 residential apartments above an interconnected retail store, Wankel’s, that spans both buildings.
