Amazon Scraps Office Attendance Baseline, Leaves Decision to Team Directors
Calling the past 20 months “unusual times,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassey said Monday that the Seattle-based company would no longer require corporate employees to be in the office three days per week. Instead, decisions on office attendance will be made by team directors.
“We expect that there will be teams that continue working mostly remotely, others that will work some combination of remotely and in the office, and still others that will decide customers are best served having the team work mostly in the office,” Jassey wrote in a memo to employees.
He added, “At a company of our size, there is no one-size-fits-all approach for how every team works best.”
Amazon’s timeline for returning to the office has evolved, shifting from September of this year to January 2022. The company employs more than 75,000 in the Seattle area and is a major corporate tenant in several other cities.
