Atlanta Ranks Third for Data Center Absorption Among North American Markets

Atlanta saw the third-most data center leasing activity in North America in the first half of 2021, according to CBRE’s latest North American Data Center Trends Report. The metro area’s 15 megawatts (MW) of net absorption in H1 was exceeded only by Northern Virginia and Phoenix.

“Data is the currency of the digital economy, and the pandemic did a lot to raise awareness in the investment community about the data center asset class,” said Tim Huffman, EVP with CBRE in Atlanta.

“Consequently, we’ve seen a significant uptick in new investors, many of whom are foreign, that have not historically made bets on data center projects,’ he continued. “Power and fiber infrastructure along with large tenant improvement contributions make data centers very appealing for safety conscious investors.”

Huffman said Atlanta is primed for data center growth, thanks to the favorable business conditions in the state of Georgia.
