Twitter Lease Shows Office Space is Alive and Well
As an indication that remote work hasn’t killed office space, Twitter recently signed a 66,000-square-foot lease at the 18-story 1330 Broadway in downtown Oakland. The space will span four floors with an opening planned in late 2022.
It is the third Bay Area location for San Francisco-based Twitter, which also has an office in San Jose’s Santana Row.
“The Oakland office market has maintained strong tenant demand from companies both growing their footprint in Oakland and those looking to move to Oakland for its strong workforce, diverse lifestyle, entertainment options, transportation and ample housing options,” said David Cropper, TMG’s director of development.
The COVID surge has thrown a wrench into some office return plans, with many companies delaying reopenings until early 2022. Twitter closed its previously reopened San Francisco and New York offices in response to the surge back in July. There has been no reopening date set. Twitter is allowing almost all of its employees to work remotely forever, and most plan to take that offer or commute to offices a couple of days a week.
