Staten Island Ballpark Reopens to Professional Ball
New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Staten Island Entertainment (SIE) LLC recently celebrated the return of professional ball to Staten Island with former Mets and Yankees World Series Champ Dwight “Doc” Gooden at the Staten Island Ballpark on the St. George waterfront. The commitment to bring a professional team back to the ballpark followed the Yankees’ suspension of its affiliate teams last fall.
NYCEDC negotiated the deal with SIE, which signed a lease in July to take over the stadium and organize and operate an Atlantic League franchise. Led by chairman John Catsimatidis and president Eric Shuffler, SIE will field a team for the 2022 season.
“This is one of the most exciting ventures I have ever been a part of,” said Catsimatidis. “We will bring affordable, family entertainment back to the people of Staten Island, boost the local economy, and see our team conquer the Atlantic League.”
