Flexibility Will Be Key in Post-Labor Day Office Environment, Says DePaul Study
The look of the post-Labor Day work environment in Chicago remains in flux. However, a survey that formed the baseline for the 2021 Mid-Year Chicago Sentiment Report by The Real Estate Center at DePaul University found that moving forward, flexibility is the key but working from home may be losing some of its luster.
The Mid-Year Sentiment Report found that nearly 32.7% of participants expect the flexibility to be where they need to be to get the job done. A higher number, 39.3%, expect to be in the office half the time, although that number likely has changed with the delta variant.
“The first six months of work from home went well,” said Mary Ludgin, director of global investment research, Heitman. “But by the end of the second six months the ‘gee whiz’ factor gave way to the recognition that not everything can or should be done by Zoom.”
