Community Three Delivers First Phase of Grimke School Redevelopment in D.C.
Real estate development company Community Three has delivered the first phase of the redevelopment of the 134-year-old Grimke School building.
The redevelopment consists of a 133,000 mixed-use adaptive re-use and redevelopment of an 1887 public school property and adjacent parcels. The property, which retains its original red brick façade, will provide a permanent home for the African American Civil War Museum. It also will house new international headquarters for two organizations in architecture and design firm Torti Gallas + Partners and an international nonprofit that advocates for education. The project originally broke ground in 2019.
Adjacent to Grimke School and delivering this summer is The Fold, a new 30-unit condominium building being built on a former parking lot. Sales of the condominium units are currently underway.
“We are very excited to bring this decade-long community-driven effort to fruition,” said Grant Epstein, president at Community Three. “The respectful historic preservation effort has furnished one-of-a-kind workspaces that will only add to the already rich history of this unique property.”
