Google Set to Welcome Bay Area Workers Next Week
Google recently confirmed the protocols it will be following for initial reopening at its California offices this month ahead of the anticipated full return in September. Google shared the reopening plans with both California Google office workers and its extended workforce.
The company plans to open in phases with Bay Area offices reopening on July 12 while Southern California offices will reopen on July 13 and July 27. The announcement noted that the company’s Mountain View and Redwood City workers “permanently assigned to a California office have the option to return for the first time since the pandemic began”.
The company plans to implement new vaccination verification and testing requirements, but noted that new measures won’t apply to offices outside the U.S. In May, Google said it expected about 20 percent of its workforce to continue working remotely after the fall reopening, while some 60 percent would work a hybrid schedule that includes about three days in the office and two days “wherever they work best”.
