Orlando Area Hospital Plans $70M Expansion
Florida Hospital Waterman plans a $70-million expansion that will more than double the size of its emergency department at the Tavares, FL campus, roughly 40 miles northwest of Orlando. A new four-story patient tower, dedicated to women’s services, is also planned to help meet patient demand that exceeded the facility’s 50,000 capacity by 15,000 last year.
The new emergency department is needed to handle soaring visits, which account for more than 80% of all of the hospital’s incoming patients. The hospital opened in 2003 in Lake County, which has grown by nearly 50% since 2000, and is expected to continue growing.
The 2,247-bed acute-care medical facility is part of Adventist Health System, which plans to break ground next month and anticipates completion by July 2019.
