Amazon Go Gets Going Nationwide
We all knew it was just a matter of time before Amazon’s cashierless concept took off and catapulted across the nation. And, the time is now. Amazon is currently testing its technology in a big box store in Seattle. This represents a signal for the future of retail, one that could test Target and Walmart’s models.
Earlier this year, Amazon opened its first cashier-free Amazon Go location in Seattle. The company boasts seven recently-opened Amazon Go stores, including multiple locations in Seattle, Chicago, and San Francisco.
You may be wondering how it works. Amazon’s system detects when a customer picks up an item using cameras and sensors run by artificial intelligence. As you shop with the additional convenience of no check-out lines, you are also providing the company with increased data, like shopping patterns, favorite products, and even surveillance on what you’re wearing.
Yet again, only time will tell what is to come from this technological, data-centric shift in retail.
