Airbnb and Century 21 Partner: Will it Spread to U.S.?

Last week in Paris, Century 21 and Airbnb announced a partnership deal in which renters can request Airbnb-friendly leases. This allows renters to legally sublet their apartment to guests from Airbnb, and in exchange, the landlord and Century 21 take 23% and 7%, respectively, of the host’s share.

With Paris as Airbnb’s biggest market, and also one with stringent regulations, this deal leverages the reach of the real estate industry to promote Airbnb’s platform. However, the real estate industry is large and multi-faceted, and some players, like hotels, are not big on the concept for obvious reasons.

And, speaking of hotels, Airbnb began to roll-out a co-branded complex in Kissimmee, FL with Newgard Development Group that provides Airbnb hosts access to the hotel-like amenities in exchange for 25% of their home-sharing income.

All of the partnerships beg the big question as to how multifamily will be affected when owners, investors and renters learn that their neighbors may be rotating Airbnb guests. And how soon partnerships like the one with Century 21 will arrive in the U.S.
