2020 Next Generation Honoree: Cushman & Wakefield’s Matt Cowie Tackles Complex Transactions

Matt Cowie is an emerging leader in Chicago’s industrial commercial real estate and overall business community. As a director and part of one of the region’s top industrial brokerage teams, he focuses on the City of Chicago and Western Cook County where he represents tenants, owners, developers and institutions in complex transactions ranging from enormous distribution campuses to last-mile e-commerce platforms. In 2019, he was involved in 61 industrial transactions valued at $520 million on five million square feet of real estate.

A majority of Cowie’s deals are complex and require persistent and consistent attention to detail. Cowie has worked on projects involving environmental contamination, zoning contingencies, sites with heavy deferred maintenance, seller financing and sale-leaseback scenarios. Clients have said that Cowie and his team are reliable problem solvers and stay in constant communication throughout the assignment.

These are just a few reasons we chose Cowie as one of the Chicago 2020 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s fourth annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.

In June of this year, Cowie’s team, led by executive director Larry Goldwasser, was recognized as Industrial Broker of the Year at the Greater Chicago Food Depository Commercial Annual Real Estate Awards. As an individual, Cowie was honored in 2018 with the Association of Industrial Real Estate Brokers’ Frank Mahoney Award, which recognizes outstanding leadership, community service and real estate brokerage success among young industrial real estate professionals.
