2020 Next Generation Honoree: Berkadia’s Vincent Punzi Remains Active During Uncertain Times

Berkadia’s Vincent Punzi has gained considerable experience in a short amount of time in the commercial real estate industry. That includes work on the principal, brokerage and debt side of the business, which has allowed him to look at obstacles from different viewpoints and find creative solutions.

His success in these different roles have proved his willingness and ability to adapt to new opportunities. That has been formed and refined since getting a start in the industry at Lee & Associates in 2008, where he was exposed to investment sales and leasing experience across all the major product types.

Since then, Punzi assist in the creation of Retail Opportunity Investments Corp. (ROIC), a retail-focused REIT, where he helped acquire, lease and manage western U.S retail properties, growing it to around $500 million worth of retail assets.

After a return stint at Lee & Associates, as the director of its property tax division, he served at Sabal Financial Group where an initial focus in acquisitions and development was followed by a transition to national account manager, handling multifamily and commercial term debt originations. This transition to lending was the turning point in his career and led him to join Capital One in September 2016.

Then, last year, he joined a team that resulted in a move to Berkadia, where his previous individual success has been expanded through the strategic partnership with others. Though Punzi and his team work within the framework of a large organization, they operate as though they’re running a business within a business. His focus is to understand the client’s business plan and advise them by providing actionable insights on the interested markets and the capital markets executions, highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of every opportunity.

Punzi and his team continue to be active for clients during these uncertain times. Specifically, on April 28, 2020 they secured $44 million in financing, a FNMA conventional and affordable loan. They successfully closed the 10-year loan with a blended rate of 2.49% with more than $17 million cash out.

These are just some of the reasons we chose Punzi as one of the California 2020 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s fourth annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
