Women in Real Estate 2019: Neology Life Development’s Lissette Calderon is Pioneering Miami Developer

Calderon’s route to becoming one of Miami’s most prominent figures in CRE began in her childhood. Her parents, who emigrated from Cuba in the 1960s, shared a passion for real estate, and her father developed numerous small projects. After graduating with honors from the Wharton School of Business, Calderon started her career as an investment banker in New York City. There, she fell in love with SoHo’s loft-style living, a niche that she felt wasn’t being addressed in Miami.
In 2002, Calderon broke ground on her first Miami River project, NeoLofts, a waterfront, 20-story condo with 201 residences and followed up with Neo Vertika, a 36-story luxury condo with 443 residential units plus 20,000 square feet of ground-floor retail.
Calderon’s visionary re-imagining and redefining of urban neighborhoods in South Florida’s highly competitive real estate industry has made her one of South Florida’s most prominent developers. She is recognized as the catalyst for the Miami River’s renaissance earning her the nickname “Queen of the River,” as she was the first developer in South Florida to invest in the Miami River, seeing its development potential as a waterfront alternative to bayfront residential living.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Calderon as one of the 2019 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
