Next Generation Honoree: Allen Matkins’ Timothy Hutter Fights for Affordable Housing, Historic Preservation

Many of Hutter’s projects and cases involve residential and mixed-use projects, and several invoke California’s density bonus law to incorporate and develop affordable housing. His involvement includes both assistance with securing those entitlements, and defending the approvals if challenged. Hutter also handles cases on appeal, and has successfully represented clients in the California Court of Appeals and the California Supreme Court.
These are just a few of the reasons we chose Hutter to be one of the California 2019 Next Generation Award winners. Connect Media’s third annual Next Generation Awards recognize young leaders in the commercial real estate industry who are likely to be influential for years to come.
Examples of Hutter’s work involve recently representing the Building Industry Association of San Diego (BIA) in a case about production of affordable housing that resulted in the court ordering the City of Encinitas to comply with state law and proceed to adopt a compliant housing element within 120 days.
Hutter has also served for more than three years on The Historical Resources Board, San Diego’s 11-member advisory board appointed by the mayor to administer the city’s historical preservation program.
