Women in Real Estate 2018: Invitation Homes’ King Takes a Focused, Methodical Approach

The 2017 combination of two giants of single-family rentals, Invitation Homes and Starwood Waypoint, created the largest portfolio in the business, as well as the formidable post-merger challenge of optimizing that portfolio and its 82,000-plus properties. Cheryl King, the VP of investments at Dallas-based Invitation Homes, led the charge.

Using a highly-focused and methodical approach, King began the process of developing a prescription for each market on how to most effectively and most efficiently sell assets utilizing a variety of channels. In this regard, her ability to identify opportunities, organize resources and execute on strategy has directly contributed to the team’s ability to surpass asset disposition goals by tens of millions of dollars this year.

That’s just one of the reasons we chose King as one of the 2018 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect Media’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.

King was also the architect of Invitation Homes’ highly successful Resident First Look (RFL) Program. She saw the need for a program that could provide select Invitation Homes residents the opportunity to purchase the property they were currently renting. She managed RFL from the first communication, when a letter was sent to the resident with a personalized watercolor of their home, all the way through closing.
