NYC Restaurants May Expand to 50% Indoor Capacity Next Week
Indoor dining capacity in both New York City and New Jersey will expand to 50% beginning March 19, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced Wednesday.
Currently, New Jersey and New York City restaurants are operating at 35% capacity, while the rest of New York State is operating at 50% capacity. This follows Cuomo’s announcement that restaurants outside of New York City will expand to 75% capacity, also on March 19.
Cuomo said, “Our decisions are based on science and data and we are encouraged by the continued decline in infection and hospitalization rates… We will continue to follow the science and react accordingly.”
In a statement, the NYC Hospitality Alliance said, “While city restaurants may not increase occupancy to 75% like restaurants are safely doing throughout the rest of the state, it is still welcome news to the battered restaurant industry.”
