Five Projects Set to Transform Silicon Valley

The Bay Area’s tech innovation and development hub represents the largest U.S. tech manufacturing center. And, workers from around the globe are drawn to the Silicon Valley because of its concentration of cutting-edge technology companies and the presence of some of the nation’s top universities.

So it is not a surprise that the Valley keeps growing and improving to keep up with that demand. The latest development comes from Urban Community, which has gotten city approval for five projects. This multi-billion dollar project will create more than 700 housing units and 5 million square feet of office space in San Jose. The projects will use environmentally sustainable construction with all-electric systems and net-zero carbon emissions.

• Development is set to begin in the third quarter on the Bank of Italy Tower at 12 S. First St. It was designed by Bjarke Ingels Group.
• Plans for the Energy Hub at 35 S. Second St. have been submitted to the city. Architect Bjarke Ingels Group also designed this building with a 10-story atrium, 437,900 square feet of offices and 194 residential units.
• Plans have also been submitted for the Orchard at 425 S. Second St. and 409 S. Second St. The 29-story high-rise office is to include ground-floor retail, 520 residential units and a rooftop infinity pool.  It was designed by James K.M. Cheng Architects.
• Plans for the Arbor at 255 W. Julian St. call for a 512,000-square-foot connected office and retail tower. Architect Studio Gang’s plans include a sky bridge and an underground tunnel.
• Development is set to begin in third quarter for Park Habitat at 180 Park Ave. The 1.2 million-square-foot indoor-outdoor workspace was designed by architect Kengo Kuma & Associates.
