Chicago Auto Show to Return in July as Hopes Rise for Broader Reopening
The annual Chicago Auto Show, canceled last year due to COVID-19, will return to McCormick Place July 15-19. The nation’s largest and longest-running auto show, it will be the first large convention to take place there since the pandemic began.
“Around this time last year, McCormick Place was turned an alternate care facility that significantly aided our city during the first wave of COVID-19—making today’s announcement all the more special,” said Mayor Lori E. Lightfoot.
She added, “In the same spirit of collaboration between government, healthcare, community, and corporate partners, we are now able to bring conventions back to our beloved convention center in a way that is safe and reflective of our progress in slowing and stopping the spread of this virus.”
In announcing the news Tuesday, Lightfoot and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker expressed hope that the broader city and state economies would reopen fully in July.
