Zoning Committee Advances Lincoln Yards to Final Hurdle

The City Council’s zoning committee voted 9-3 on Thursday to move Sterling Bay’s proposal for Lincoln Yards to a final vote by the full council. The plan is expected to be on the agenda at next week’s City Council meeting.

Ald. James Cappleman, the committee’s acting chair following the removal of Ald. Danny Solis in January, attempted to delay a vote on the North Branch mega-project, saying “a lot of new information” has come in regarding the project. Yet he was outvoted by other committee members.

However, Cappleman had already obtained a concession from Sterling Bay in the form of more onsite affordable housing. Further, the project will go before the full council with additional concessions.

Sterling Bay agreed to cap the height of buildings at 595 feet, rather than 650 feet as previously planned. It will also scale down the site by 500,000 square feet to 14.5 million square feet.
