Work Begins on $106M Banner Boswell ER & Patient Tower

McCarthy Building Cos. launched construction on a new emergency room and patient tower at Banner Boswell Medical Center in Sun City, AZ. The $106-million development, at 10401 W. Thunderbird Blvd., will focus on adding a 40,000-square-foot ER and six-story tower that will serve as the hospital’s new main entrance.

The ER expansion is expected to be completed in summer 2020, and will increase the number of beds from the current 42 to 56. Meanwhile, the tower’s first floor, scheduled to open in late 2020, will contain the main lobby, gift shop, retail pharmacy, admitting desk and chapel. The floors above the lobby will be “shelled” space, reserved for future inpatient rooms.

The tower is being built on a site that once held a 33-year-old, two-story parking garage, which was demolished.
