Wilshire Grand Center Reaches New Heights
Los Angeles’ tallest high rise tower topped out this week, when a 35-foot steel beam was fitted in place at Wilshire Grand Center. The 73-story tower will rise 1,100 feet, and be the tallest building west of Chicago when completed in March 2017.
Those involved in the project gathered to commemorate the construction milestone at the site, on the corner of Figueroa St. and Wilshire Blvd. Once the traditional signing of the steel beam was completed, it was decorated with an American flag and a small cypress tree for good luck, before being raised to the top of the core structure.
The $1-billion project, which is owned by Korean Air, includes 400,000-square-feet of office space, 900 hotel rooms, and more than 45,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space.
