Whole Foods Supplier Consolidates at 1.2M-SF Distribution Center in Centralia

Tukwila-headquartered O’Keefe Development is gearing up to welcome United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI), Whole Foods’ primary supplier, to a more than $100-million distribution center it developed at the Port of Centralia next month. The 1.2-million-square-foot facility was built exclusively for UNFI on roughly 77 acres at 4002 Galvin Rd., midway between Seattle and Portland.

UNFI’s Steve Spinner says, “The construction of Centralia and expansion of our Ridgefield facility represents the first significant step in our optimization of UNFI’s DC network following the acquisition of Supervalu, allowing us to better serve all our customers throughout the Pacific Northwest.” UNFI bought Supervalue Inc. for $2.9 billion eight months ago.

Rhode Island-based UNFI operates five distribution centers in the Pacific Northwest, a 944,000 square-foot facility in Tacoma, a 323,000 square-foot warehouse in Auburn, 220,000 square-foot and 30,000 square-foot warehouses in Ridgefield, and a 923,000 square-foot warehouse in Portland, OR. UNFI plans to close facilities in Tacoma, Portland and Auburn.
