Whole Foods Signs Up as First Retail Tenant for Madison MXU

Smith Gilbane, a joint venture of Gilbane Development Company and Summit Smith Development, signed a lease for a 50,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market to anchor its Madison Yards at Hill Farms development in Madison, WI. The natural products grocer is the first retail tenant for the 1.7-million-square-foot mixed-use project.

“Adding Whole Foods Market as our first retail tenant is a big win for Madison Yards, and speaks to the caliber of what we’ve envisioned all along for the development,” noted Russell Broderick, SVP at Gilbane.

Smith Gilbane completed phase one of the project, the 600,000-square-foot Wisconsin State Office Building and parking garage, in 2018. The next phase of the project, to include Whole Foods, hotel, parking and residential with ground-level retail, is expected to begin in summer 2020.

Including the Whole Foods location, Madison Yards will feature 110,000 square feet of retail, restaurants and entertainment spaces.
