Watch Out Tesla, Porsche’s Battery-Powered Sports Car Gets Green Light
Despite the recent Volkswagen emissions scandal, Porsche’s Board has given the go-ahead to produce Mission E, a battery-powered sports car that will rival Tesla’s lineup of cars. The vehicle will reportedly take 15 minutes to charge, which is about half the time that Tesla’s Model S currently takes. Production will cost $1.09 billion and the model is expected to hit the market in about five years time.
VW stated that the production will create 1,000 manufacturing jobs near its Stuttgart headquarters. The four seat concept car will accelerate from 0-60 in less than 3.5 seconds, topping the speed of Porsche’s 911.
Following the climate talks in Paris, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk urged regulators to crack down on the regulation of carbon emissions. Porsche has surely responded.
