Wal-Mart’s Potential Acquisition Could Threaten Amazon
In a never-ending battle between clicks and bricks, Wal-Mart Stores is reportedly considering the acquisition of e-commerce site, Jet.com. While Amazon.com’s online sales is dramatically larger than that of Wal-Mart’s, analysts believe that if the deal does happen, the major retailer could actually threaten Amazon’s market share.
Last year, Wal-Mart brought in about $13.7 billion in online sales, whereas Amazon.com delivered $50.4 billion. Jet.com’s management has a target gross merchandise volume (GMV) of $20 billion by 2020.
Wal-Mart’s CEO has noted that their online sales growth is too small, but this potential acquisition signals that the company is “looking to take action.”
