Walmart’s $51 Million Dollar E-Commerce Purchase

Walmart has reportedly purchased Michigan-based outdoor retailer Moosejaw. Moosejaw was founded in 1992, and has 10 stores, but is experiencing rapid growth in its clothing and accessories category, which, according to comscore, is the top online retail category.

Six months ago, Walmart purchased jet.com for $3 billion, and jet.com and Walmart’s reach will add more power to Moosejaw’s brand. Currently, Moosejaw will operate as its own brand facing consumers and remain in Michigan, but the purchase will offer expanded reach for Moosejaw’s suppliers and customers to purchase products.

Walmart doesn’t plan to sell Moosejaw products in-store, but rather leverage Moosejaw’s online expertise to increase Walmart’s e-commerce success.
