Waldorf Astoria Coming to Transbay’s First and Mission
The Waldorf Astoria plans to open a luxury hotel by 2021 at First and Mission, a two-million-square-foot tower at San Francisco’s Transbay development. The project would be the second tallest in the city at 910 feet, and includes a mix of hotel, retail, residential apartments, and office space.
The hotel component includes 171 rooms and suites on the first 21 floors, as well as several restaurants and a trademark Waldorf spa.
China-based Oceanwide Holdings acquired the site last year for $296 million, and subsequently received approval to develop two towers. The project is expected to break ground this fall.
San Francisco-based Heller Manus and London-based Foster + Partners will collaborate on the exterior design, while San Francisco-based Hirsch Bedner Associates will handle the hotel’s interiors.
